1. Investigate New Marketplaces

Many marketplaces operate in similar ways and will require very little change in business processes to take advantage of the opportunities marketplace offers.

Even if you are selling on all the big marketplaces, consider some of the small lesser known marketplaces especially if you sell “niche” products. Etsy, Rakuten and Tesco are great examples of alternative marketplaces with smaller but committed customer bases.

2. Diversify Your Product Range

An alternative to diversifying your customer source, is diversifying the sort of products you sell. By extending your product range you can become the one stop shop to your customers. Consider items that work with your existing product range well, or speak to your customers and ask them what sort of items they think you should stock. Drop-shippers and fulfilment centres are great ways to easily expand your product range in a cost effective manner. 3. The Importance Of Referrals

Remember “Personal recommendations are the number one driver of consumer purchase decisions at every stage in the purchase cycle”(Ed Keller, Forbes). With recommendations and referrals so important why not encourage your customers to recommend you to a friend. Offer a discount or a free gift for any referrals. Encourage your customers to share their positive experiences with you by asking for reviews and encourage them to use social media when speaking about you.

4. Become A Respected Voice In Your Industry

No one knows more about your products and your industry than you. So why not talk about it, teach your customers about the industry, comment on relevant news and inform them of interesting ways to use your products. 5. Cross Border Trade

By expanding your market overseas, you instantly expand your customer base. With many marketplaces this is a very easy process. Using Amazon & eBay for example, both marketplaces have dedicated tools to make it as easy as possible to expand into multiple countries.
